Brassicas Month

November was "brassicas" month in Maine, that means it was time to celebrate kale, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and cauliflower! During November, students had opportunities to taste those veggies during lessons in our school garden and classroom, through the cafeteria's lunch menu, during class visits with Maine SNAP-ED, and during school-wide taste tests in the cafeteria with our FoodCorps Service Member. We collected students votes during the cafeteria taste tests to help inform you as parents, our future cooking lessons, taste tests, and our school's lunch menu. 

Broccoli Salad: Broccoli, mayonnaise, lemon juice, maple syrup, raisins

Kids said, "I thought I didn't like broccoli ... but I LOVE this!" "I think I know what I'm asking for with dinner tonight" 

Kale Apple Salad: Kale, diced apple, lemon juice, maple syrup, oil, salt.

Kids liked "the crunchy apples" and "the sweet and lemon-y taste of the dressing"
